- This morning there was a FakeButt post in a local group recruiting riders for a veteran's funeral procession. I didn't know the guy personally, but I knew enough. I peeled out after the procession.
The ride continued. After departing Lenoir, I headed toward Collettsville.
I then turned up Maple Springs Ch Rd. There was a mountain bike race in progress. They were all cool about me weaving through, I returned the same respect. Saw a cool rattler in the road. A guy in a pickup ran over it to kill it. Probably for the best, as I guided about a half dozen bike riders around it as the pix were being made. Someone bitten was a high likelihood since it basically looked like a stick in the road at a distance, just like the other thousand out there.
At the intersection, a left turn took me past Mortimer Campground toward Pinola Rd. Pineola is another lengthy gravel section in the forest. It comes out near Jonas Ridge. There's a store at the mountain top, the perfect place for a break. The temps were naturally cooler up there. The breeze was stirring but not enough to make it uncomfortable. It was a nice spot!
The store is located on Hwy 181. This is a popular bike road, one of those curvy treks with great asphalt. I rode down rather than up. Then it was a couple hour loop segment back home. The weather morphed from overcast with a little sprinkle into a truly beautiful day. Great ride, 100% recommend. This morning there was a FakeButt post in a local group recruiting riders for a veteran's funeral procession. I didn't know the guy personally, but I knew enough.
